about

Warlock Asylum, is the Brooklyn based collaboration between poet Messiah'el Bey and multi-instrumentalist Steve Berson. Together, along with featured vocalist Janet LaBelle, they have created a new sound meshing spoken word, organic beats, live instruments, and soulful hooks.

Warlock Asylum's sound can be traced to numerous influences, ranging from artists as diverse as The Last Poets, Public Enemy, Erykah Badu, Portishead, Bill Withers, Masters at Work, Babatunde Olatunji, Tricky, Common, The Beatles, and Gil Scot Heron.

Their second album "There In America" features five original compositions recorded in the lab at Total Sonic Media, and their own take on the Erykah Badu classic "On and On" recorded live at Arlene's Grocery in NYC. It features guest appearances by violinists Megan Berson and Helen Yee, guitarist Jef Brown, trumpeter Clyde Daley, drummer Evan Taylor, and MC Kachi Rufino.
